From $500 to $10,000 in 1 Week

So…as you can probably guess from the title, week 1 was good to me. I was hoping to be somewhere around $1500 or $2000 by the end of week 1, so I’m pretty ecstatic to be well ahead of that. My win rate so far as been phenomenal. For sure I have been running good, but I also feel like I have been playing great. I managed to double through to $1000 on the first night by playing a $13 double satellite tournament where the winner won an entry in the Sunday million (buy in of $530). Instead of playing in the Sunday tournament, I used the $530 to play a series of $100 buy in sit-n-gos, and won another $500. So about midway through day 2, I was already up to about $1500. Then I switched to .50-1 nl and started taking bad beat after cooler after bad beat. I took about 10 beats in a row of varying size that cost me about $400. Then I got tilty and gave away another $350. So by the end of night 2 I was down to $750. I called it a night, and came back strong on day 3 to go from $750 to $2000. Then I moved up to 1-2 nl and went on an incredible heater, and closed night 4 with nearly $4000. 2-4 was no harder than 1-2 and I sailed through it to move up to 3-6 by the end of day 5. 3-6nl was a bit harder, as the players tended to be more aggressive, 3 betting preflop often, running more advanced plays on me, ect… Nonetheless, by the end of week 1, I managed to get through 3-6 nl to end the week 10k. Week 2 will see me begin with 5-10nl.

Oh, and Daniel Negreanu’s book is even more aimed towards the beginner than I thought. It’s got valuable information in it, but I’m not sure there was a single suggestion or hint in it that I didn’t already know. Nonetheless, if you’re a beginner player, I do highly recommend it.

note: the winnings below are from ring games only. it doesn’t factor what I won with my tournament play.
